Thomas Hacker Architects rendering: Bayview Branch Library 9/09
In November 2000, the voters passed a bond measure for $106 million to upgrade San Francisco’s branch library system and in November 2007, the voters overwhelmingly passed Proposition D authorizing additional funding to improve the branches.
Highlights of the new one story building include separate adult, teen, and children’s areas built around a central courtyard, more computers, room for an expanded collection, a study room, program room with after hour’s access for library programs and community events, public art, lots of light, many environmental green features, and much more.
The Friends of the San Francisco Public Library are raising funds from private donations to pay for new furniture, fixtures, and equipment for the branch libraries. For more information on the Neighborhood Library Campaign, please contact TScheulov@friendssfpl.org.
