Services for People with Limited Mobility

The Main Library is fully accessible and offers:

  • Automatic entrance doors
  • Book holders
  • Computer terminals at 32" high
  • Full ramp & elevator access to all departments
  • Public catalog with ZoomText Xtra on an adjustable height table (3rd floor)
  • Varied height service desks
  • Parking

Volunteers at the Main Library (with advance notice by contacting 557-4557) and staff are available to:

  • Assist with photocopying
  • Interact with Library staff
  • Read aloud from Library materials
  • Retrieve Library items
  • Search for items in the electronic catalog

The branches of San Francisco Public Library are undergoing a ten-year project (2000-2010) to make them fully accessible:

  • Until all bathrooms, aisles, and seating are made wheelchair accessible, the partial accessibility of the branches will be indicated by this symbol for partial or no accessibility
  • If you are using a specific branch with the symbol for partial or no accessibility, please call for the potential access to its facility and services.
