The James C. Hormel Gay & Lesbian Center is the gateway to collections documenting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered history and culture, with a special emphasis on the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to books, periodical and archival collections, the Center sponsors changing exhibitions and public programs.

The San Francisco Public Library celebrated the life and poetry of Adrienne Rich with writers and poets who gathered to read from her work. The program was introduced by Hormel Center Program Manager Karen Sundheim with personal reminiscences by Rich’s friend and student Jack Litewka. Poets and writers included Lucy Jane Bledsoe, Drea Brown, Justin Chin, Elana Dykewomon, Robin Ekiss, Christian Gullette, Kevin Killian, Stephen Kopel, Ali Liebegott, Toni Mirosevich, Peter Orner, Teya Schaffer, Aaron Shurin, Kevin Simmonds, Arisa White and Jewelle Gomez.
