An Afternoon of Music and Theater.
Join the California Suffragist Singers and Players for a family afternoon of music and theater that brings the California suffrage movement to life. Singers Cathy Foxhaven, Kiki Arnaudo, Jan Robertson, Katie Riggs, and Elsa Shafer will perform a selection of suffrage songs, including Another Star, the official California suffrage song, composed by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and set to the tune of Did You Ever See a Lassie.
A pair of San Mateo actors will introduce two leading San Francisco suffragists. Maud Younger, the Millionaire Waitress who took the suffrage message to local labor unions is portrayed by Cynthia Arella, a San Mateo Historical Museum Living History Presenter. Selina Solomons, active in both the 1896 and 1911 suffrage campaigns is portrayed by Cathy Foxhaven, a professional actor and singer with over 35 years experience in a wide range of media. The Suffragist players perform The Girl from Colorado, or the Conversion of Aunty Suffridge, by Selina Solomons with (Kiki) Arnaudo as Aunty Suffridge, Alida Hinton as Constance Wright, Peter Bassford as Professor Armstrong, and Chuck Arella as Reverend Hawse-Chestnutt.
