Art Hickman is credited with introducing “sweet jazz” to the world, a type of music that would make Paul Whiteman famous, and that would evolve into the “big band” sound. This exhibition of sheet music, photographs and ephemera puts flesh on the man who absorbed jazz rhythms on the Barbary Coast, bringing them to the Hotel St. Francis and later, to New York City.
