Blue People by a Green Painter

Paintings by Nanette Harris
Event detail

As part of the annual Afro Solo exhibition, the Library presents a collection of Oakland artist Nannette Harris’s paintings which explores humanity by painting the skin of people of different races, countries and cultures blue. She uses blue because the color of blood while inside each person is blue.   She views blue as a symbol of the connection that binds all people.  Using oils on canvas, Ms. Harris mixes bold colors and textures to create a three-dimensional quality to her work.  Her moniker of being a “green painter” comes from her history of using recycled paint and reclaimed paint brushes, since 1993 to render extraordinary paintings.
