Event detail

Since ancient times, Chinese painting has been called “Dan Qing” which refers to the minerals that can be made into pigments. “Dan” refers to cinnabar and “Qing” refers to blue copper ore and lapis lazuli then, “Dang Qing” becomes synonymous with painting or painting pigment in general.

Using  the color of minerals as a main artistic medium contributes to a brilliant history in Chinese art, including primitive, ancient painted pottery and the splendid Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes murals. Today, a limited number of artisans are using this traditional mineral color technique.
