The most important cultural icon of Mexico, the Virgin of Guadalupe, is celebrated every year Dec. 9 – 12 throughout Mexico.  This festival commemorates when the humble Indian Juan Diego saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary. Join us when San Francisco Poet Laureate Alejandro Murgía tells the story of the Virgin of Guadalupe and her relation to the goddess Tonatzin. Enjoy the music and dance of the Danza Azteca Teokalli dancers. Alejandro Murgía will also be available to sign copies of his recent book A Little Piece of Mexico.Related exhibit: A Little Piece of Mexico: The Postcards of Guillermo Kahlo and His Contemporaries, Main Library, Jewett Gallery, now through December 29, 2013.
