100 Years of the Raker Act:

Solving San Francisco's Water Woes
Event detail

This exhibit documents the 100 year anniversary of the passage of the Raker Act.

The Raker Act was a controversial congressional act that allowed the creation of the O’Shaughnessy Dam and flood Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park. It provided, much needed, water for the city of San Francisco. John Muir fought the act and the damming of the Hetch Hetchy.
