It's Paris, 1874, and the world of art is about to change forever. View over one hundred slides of art by Monet, Renoir, Pissarro, Cezanne, Lautrec, Sisley, Degas, Cassatt and Morisot. Artists who experienced and expressed the world about them each in their own unique and personal way. Pointillism, expressionism, it was all a part of the new avant-garde of Paris in the 1800's.
The effect of light on nature. Joyous use of color. Expressive use of line. Dance hall girls, ballet dancers, water lilies, peasants, gardens, laborers. They gathered together in studios, cafes, bars and on the streets, to talk and argue about art, its meaning, and how and what to paint.
They exhibited together, they supported each other, and together they formed the new art movement that would forever change the way we experience art. Together they shaped the avant-garde world of Impressionism, and eventually opened the doors to the Modern Art Movement of the 20th Century and beyon. Also included will be a selection of Vincent Van Gogh's early Impressionist paintings, created when he lived in Paris (1886-1888), and before he moved to the south of France. His best buddies were Toulouse Lautrec, Emile Bernard and Paul Gauguin. From them and others, Van Gogh learned about color, and began to experiment with a variety of brush strokes. The art of Impressionism opened up a whole new world to Van Gogh, and his art, and that of others, would never be the same again!
