Jason Schwartzman plays Max Fischer, a precocious 15-year-old, for whom high school life is exceedingly important. He attends the prestigious Rushmore Academy, and although Max is incredibly bright, he is doing terribly in school. He does, however, immerse himself in all manner of extracurricular activities (beekeeping society? fencing club?). But Max becomes enamored with a teacher, a situation further complicated by Herman Blume (Bill Murray), a parent of Max's classmates, who also has feelings for Ms. Cross. The attempts to resolve this situation (and Max's acceptance of the consequences of his decisions and fabrications) make for a very funny and thoughtful film. 93 minutes.
