My art comes from a raw place. It’s the part of me that is unfinished, unprocessed, but fully aware. There is a trance-like selection of elements and composition that allows the piece to bring itself into being. With the Reversing Vandalism project piece, I felt this could go one of two ways: either allow the pain of the act to emerge, or to attempt to find the lesson within the curse. I chose to focus on Hope; to allow the darkness of violence to be a reminder of the wings we have to rise above—not blinded by our fears, but moving toward an unhindered love and acceptance, which will ultimately save not only books, but us all.
