California Poets in the Schools Poetry Readings and Workshops

Celebrating National Poetry Month, April 2011

California Poets in the Schools (CPITS) in collaboration with the San Francisco Public Library, and funded by the Walter and Elise Haas Fund and the California Arts Council, is hosting readings and workshops to celebrate April as National Poetry Month.

Poetry writing workshops are for children and teens. The book-making workshops are for children (ages 7 and up), parents, and teens. The poetry readings will feature student poets from grades K-12 who have participated in California Poets in the Schools writing sessions in their classrooms.

California Poets in the Schools, the largest writer-in-the-schools program of its kind in the country, is in its 46th year of sending professional published writers into classrooms, libraries, juvenile halls, and hospital programs to help California students recognize and celebrate their own creativity and intellectual curiosity through the creative writing process. For more information, contact info@cpits.org, (415) 221-4201 or www.cpits.org.
