Penguin publishing announced that it will pull its Kindle compatible ebook titles from all libraries using OverDrive. See article from Library Journal and posting on OverDrive blog. San Francisco Public Library will still have access to the titles purchased in EPUB and PDF formats but the popular Kindle format has been disabled for Penguin titles.
For San Francisco Public Library’s OverDrive users, this means that holds on Kindle format eBooks published by Penguin Group cannot be fulfilled at this time. We are hoping that in the near future OverDrive will restore access to Kindle editions of Penguin titles.
Penguin USA also will not provide libraries with new titles in any ebook format for the foreseeable future. That means libraries will not be able to purchase frontline Penguin titles from OverDrive. OverDrive is actively working with Penguin on this issue and is hopeful Penguin will agree to restore access to new titles and Kindle availability as soon as possible.
SFPL apologizes for this service disruption for Kindle eBook users and we will provide updated information as we receive it.
