The San Francisco Public Library Board of Advising Youth (BAY) is a dynamic council of 15 high school and early college-age student interns who are charged with designing and planning the Main Library’s new Teen Digital Center, set to open in 2015. The group represents 12 different educational institutions, 10 out-of-school time programs, and 12 different geographical areas of San Francisco. Of the 15 interns, 3 positions are set aside for City-sponsored youth work programs, and the remaining positions are funded through a City stipend. Placement is arranged via a formal application process as positions become available. The group works weekly and at special events, with a project-based approach to planning architecture, design, and programmatic curriculum in the center. New applicants should be in 9th or 10th grade.
