In order to provide an improved experience for those using library computers for word processing, spreadsheets and presentations, SFPL upgraded to the Office 2013 suite of tools. This software replaces the Open Office applications (Writer, Calc, & Impress) with Microsoft Office 2013, which includes Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.
Microsoft Office represents the industry standard for word processing, providing better program compatibility for students, researchers, job applicants and others. Most businesses require knowledge of MS Office tools as a prerequisite for job seekers, many of whom use library computers to aid in the job hunt as well as in building a resume and for filling out job applications.
In addition, Office 2013 offers Excel, the state-of-the-art tool for organization and analysis of data into spreadsheets, charts, graphs, etc. as well as PowerPoint, presentation software favored by educators and business.
This newest version of Office provides forward and backward compatible capability for our users. Users must have SFPL library cards and PINs in order to log in and use this new software, as with all computer usage at the library.
