Local Author Writes Back to Project Read Learner

Photo of book cover
Neil Mills wrote a lovely piece in the Winter 2008 issue of Project Read Update describing how the book and movie The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill touched his life. Neil sent a copy of his story to Mark Bittner, the author of the book and subject of the movie. The following is the text of an e-mail that Neil then received from Mark.

Hello Neil,
Well, thank you very much for sending this to me. I enjoyed it a great deal. One of my hopes for the book was that it would get people to notice the wilderness happening all around them, and in your case I accomplished that goal. It’s been a very strange story for me—I mean meeting the parrots and all that that has brought me. You never know where your good fortune will come from. Good luck to you and thanks again for bringing this to my attention.
Sincerely,
Mark Bittner
