Celebrating Project Read's Silver Anniversary

This year we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the founding of Project Read. Since 1983, Project Read has trained over 4,500 volunteers who have helped thousands of adult learners improve their literacy skills and reach their personal goals.

We will be celebrating Project Read’s silver anniversary in a variety of ways and we hope you will be part of the festivities. Here is a list of anniversary activities to look for in the coming months.

  • Project Read Night at AT&T Park – Saturday, September 6, Giants vs. Pittsburg Pirates. All currently active learners and tutors will be eligible for tickets to this game. Details are coming your way soon.

  • Project Read Gala 25th Anniversary Celebration – Monday, October 27, Main Library Atrium. See the Main Library in a whole new light. The evening’s events will be held after the library closes on the first and second floors, which will be transformed into a truly wonderful environment for a party. Invitations will be coming your way in September.

  • Also, look for special proclamations from the Mayor, Board of Supervisors, State Legislature, and U.S. Congress commemorating Project Read’s services and the achievements of our tutors and learners over the past 25 years.

  • We would like to thank the Anniversary Planning Committee, a group of enthusiastic and creative tutors, learners and supporters for the work they are doing to make the celebration a success. Planning Committee members are: Lucille Cuttler, Deborah Doyle, Suzanne Kirk, Queen Amie Kurbally, Mary Alice McNab, Neil Mills, Deborah Pardes, Joanna Schaller, and Flynn Waters.

If you or your company would like to underwrite a portion of the cost for any of these anniversary activities (Giants tickets, October 27 gala, etc.) please call the Project Read office (415-557-4388) and ask for the program manager. Thank you in advance for your support of Project Read.
