On December 13, 2007, over 110 members of the Project Read community of tutors, adult learners, staff, family, and friends came together to celebrate the season at the annual Holiday Party & Potluck. As usual, the festivities were held in the Main Library’s Latino-Hispanic Community Room which had been beautifully decorated with the help of tutor-learner team John Caroompas and Wendy Lee. Once again this year, our City Librarian of San Francisco, Luis Herrera, was there to welcome everyone and congratulate both adult learners and tutors on the work they do throughout the year.

The highlight of the evening was of course the free raffle of gifts which had been donated by tutors and many local businesses. Brian Castagne acted as honorary Santa, and with the help a few select elves (the children of our learners and tutors), he made many lucky ticket holders very happy.

Beautiful music for the evening was performed by classical guitarist Frances Ancheta. The mouth-watering aromas wafting through the room were created by all the tasty homemade dishes contributed by Project Read learners, tutors, and staff. At the end of the evening everyone attending the party received a small thank you gift—a handsome black mug with the SFPL and Project Read logos tastefully emblazoned on either side.
