One of the big highlights of this past year was attending my Project Read tutor’s graduation from the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Renee has been my tutor for five years, so, I got a chance to see first hand what it took to get through law school. I have always had a curiosity about what it would take to get through law school. After each of our tutoring sessions, Renee would take a few minutes to let me ask all kinds of questions about her school work and all the other things associated with going to Hastings College of the Law. I learned from Renee that going to law school is no easy task.

But, the really big highlight of Renee’s graduation ceremony was when the keynote speaker, California Supreme Court Associate Justice Carol A. Corrigan, said something to the graduation class of 2007 which Renee and I could relate to. Associate Justice Corrigan started off by congratulating the class on their completion of law school. Next, Justice Corrigan told the class of all the benefits they would enjoy. Then, she told them of their new responsibilities to society. She told them that twenty percent of Californians are illiterate, they are society’s most vulnerable, and they will need the help of this class. Little did Associate Justice Corrigan know, one of the people in the graduating class was already doing what she just asked.

I and the entire staff of Project Read would like to wish you the best in your new profession. Congratulations Renee Feldman Attorney at Law!
