Dear Joesan-- Well, I read the reviews in the paper of the Phil. Orch and In the New Yorker of “Contract Marriage” [?] and I guess you enjoyed them very much--who did you take to see them--anyone that I would know? I am more relaxed now--the salt water, sand and sunshine is better than tranquilizers (I was taking them) in fact, I’ve been in the sun so much that the hair on my arms is all blond and my eyebrows are much, much lighter--I’ll be a southern blond yet--then I’ll be my own type. Everyone looks so healthy here--the high school kids seem so different from those in N.Y.--here they are better built and are all full of health--riding bikes and sunshine is ...

Dad has not been too well--he has developed hardening of the arteries and I’m a little worried about him--he will return to N.Y. in about a month. Saw the Am Ballet Theater here last week with 2 fellows from N.Y. and one from Miami and they did some beautiful works--rep Etudes--most enjoyable short (35 min) ballet I have seen--not the best dancing--but good, and an excellent work--music was exciting too. Still living in the dump--a wild hotel--35% drunks, 10% homosexuals, 20% prostitutes, 20% dope addicts, 15% misfits--and those %’s are not far off--you can walk down the hall and smell who’s in which room--whiskey, cologne, cheap perfume, pot, and no odor, in that order. Was offered one halfway decent job at ...

Image of page three of letter from Harvey Milk to Joe Campbell (p. 3)  $92 per week for a small insurance company but turned it down, for it was not what I would really like--not that I know what I would like, but the people that I would have worked for looked too catty and small townish, and that is bad in Miami--the police here are always after the gay set--raiding the bars (which is unlike NY’s raids--here they take in most of the people and publish the names in the newspaper)--they also put out plants as hitchhikers, and in coffee shops, and sometimes even raid the gay beach!!!! Anyway, one can find work here in some kind of a job if you really need one--but with my $50 a week check coming in each week--well, who is in a hurry--the beach is nice, the water wonderful, the sun ...

Image of page four of letter from Harvey Milk to Joe Campbell (p. 4)  great, and most of the people (tourists) fun. Seems everyone from N.Y. wants to live here and everyone from here wants to live in N.Y. There is a possibility that I may go to California as there are 2 fellows from L.A. here who have asked me to go back with them-- but I don’t think I will--they have a small home there and are on a vacation across the Southeast and leave soon for New Orleans. Nothing really exciting to report--if you do drop me a line or two let me know how you enjoyed the 2 performances. Did you see Irwin at the Am Opera Society or were you with someone you didn’t think Irwin would like?  Well, until next time As Always Harveysan
