Innocents Abroad

4/01/12 - 5/31/2012

Main Library

Skylight Gallery - 6th Floor

100 Larkin St.

Reaching into near and far corners of the world, this exhibition draws on a rich collection of materials that represents the book hunting activities of a fervent bibliophile in the first half of the 20th century. Wherever he traveled Nat Schmulowitz searched out bookshops and added humor books to what has become the world's largest public collection of wit & humor.

From a gift of ninety-three jest books, the Schmulowitz Collection of Wit & Humor now holds over 22,000 volumes, representing over 400 years of humor in thirty-seven languages and dialects.

Innocents Abroad opens April 1 in the Skylight Gallery and continues through May 31.

A gallery of images from the exhibition may be viewed on our Flickr page.
