A Little Piece of Mexico:

9/14/13 - 12/29/2013

Biblioteca Central

Galería Jewett - Planta Baja

100 Larkin St.

Of all the postcards of all the countries, Mexican postcards are unique.  Mexico in the early 1900s was pretty much unknown territory, rich in a diversity of people, customs and ethnic dresses and a place of conflicts and wars, generals and traitors, beautiful women and dangerous men, stunning landscapes and architecture - and home to many photographers.  This exhibit, from the private collection of Alejandro Murguia, San Francisco poet laureate, will explore Mexico from the turn of the last century through post cards.  It will feature the work of international photographers Guillermo Kahlo (German),  Abel Briquet (France), F. Leon (Oaxaca); Caecilie Seler (Germany), CB Waite (US), Felix Miret (Mexico) and many others.Sponsored by the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs of San Francisco State University and City Lights Foundation.
