1890 Chestnut Street

Drawing works from both San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, this exhibition @ California Palce of Legion of Honor includes 23 paintings and works on paper. It will examine the subjects and stylistic innovations that Matisse depicted in his career and explored in his life. His brilliant, vibrant but arbitrary use of color and his bold experiments in form and composition were first identified with the “Wild Beasts”. Later he came to be understood as among the most important and influential artists of the 20th Century.  A docent from Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco will give a presentation on Matisse from SFMOMA.
