200th Anniversary of Taras Shevchenko, Ukrainian Poet

2/01/14 - 4/16/2014

Biblioteca Central

Centro Internacional: Exposición - 3ª Planta

100 Larkin St.

Ukraine’s cultural godfather was an orphaned serf who became a painter; a painter who became a fearless poet; and a poet who endured imprisonment and exile to become the voice of a people.

Taras Shevchenko became one of the best known symbolic figures of the Ukrainian nation not just for his creative achievements, but also for his fight for freedom, against slavery and the institution of serfdom itself.
At the exhibition you will find the reproductions of some of Taras Shevchenko’s most famous artworks, facts of his life as well as artworks of modern Ukrainian painters who created pictures on Shevchenko’s world-known poems. You will be enchanted by Shevchenko’s poems translated by American poet, translator and journalist Petro Fedynsky.
