The Black Woman is God

3/01/14 - 5/15/2014

Biblioteca Central

Centro Africano Americano: Exposición - 3ª Planta

100 Larkin St.

Contributing artists Tarika Lewis, Karen Seneferu, Malik Seneferu, Sydney “Sage” Cain and Ajuan Mance present artwork which explore the divinity of Blackness, and the centrality of the Black Woman within that cosmology. African is the cradle of civilization and as such the Black woman’s mitochondria has in its DNA all of humanity. What does it mean to be the mother of mankind and yet be abused, neglected and dehumanized? What does it mean for Black artists to affirm the Black Woman as the mother of humanity? These become political elements within the discussion that the artists take on and hopefully the viewers will too
