Here at San Francisco Public Library our children's librarians use children's literature and other library resources to encourage a life long joy of reading and the opportunity for personal development.
Get a library card! It opens up an exciting collection of books, magazines, and other materials specially selected for children through age 13. With your new library card you can borrow any of the following from one of our 28 locations: board books, picture stories, readers, fiction, non-fiction, folklore, audio cassettes, videocassettes, magazines, and guides to selecting books and other materials for children.
Children's librarians know books and children. We offer: reading recommendations, reference and research assistance, guided tours and specialized programs for groups and classes, presentations about children's literature and library services, Children's Story Line for ages 3-5 in English, Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese.
Our libraries provide more than books. The children's librarian in each library presents a variety of events: preschool storytime, infant-toddler lapsits, craft programs, puppet shows, film programs, special performer, storytelling, citywide book-related events, and the summer reading programs.
We also have an Electronic Discovery Center. At the Electronic Discovery Center, kids can use programs to make their own art work, challenge space aliens in a reading game, surf the Web and read interactive books.
