The choice is yours. San Francisco Public Library now offers six library card designs including a new ecocard that is made from corn and is both renewable and biodegradable.

You also can choose from four cool, colorful styles for your library card, designed by young San Francisco artists. The Library, in partnership with the San Francisco Unified School District, held a children’s library card art contest based on the theme “My Library.” A winner from each category—preschool, elementary school, middle school and high school—was selected and the winning designs have been incorporated into the library cards and are available to all patrons—adult and children.

Or, if you prefer, you can choose the SFPL Classic – the traditional design. The Classic and the student-designed cards are available in a keychain-style library card as well. The ecocard is only available in a standard size format.

The ecocard is a pilot project intended to help the Library evaluate the durability and usability of the new card and the potential for replacing all plastic library cards in the future. To avoid adding more plastic materials into the waste stream, the free ecocard will only be offered to new library card applicants. It can be purchased as a replacement library card for a small fee.

We need your feedback! When you get your new ecocard, we ask that you provide us with your e-mail address so we may follow up.

Visit the Main Library or your neighborhood branch to get your new card today!
