The original book, Lady Boys, Tom Boys, Rent Boys, discussed the misconception of the
acceptance of homosexuality in Thailand. After reading the book, I felt I could not
comment on life in Thailand, but look closer to home for inspiration. Having been close
to New York and Provincetown a good part of my life, I wanted to show, simply, how our
perception and/or acceptance of gay life in the United States has changed from the 1950s
through the 1990s. As the number of closed minds has decreased each decade, so the
number of pages glued shut decreases as the book progresses.
