The damaged book itself was the initial inspiration for Mixed Messages. Enveloping the book Same Sex within a framework gave me an environment for my stream of consciousness doll-scape. Inadvertently autobiographic, the floating icons and charms suggest desires, connections, challenges and footnotes of THIS gay boy’s life. At fifty-one I have seen huge changes in our community, most importantly, a social flow that spirals and grows and has a life of its own. I localize my point of reference to San Francisco as the center of my universe. It is where the experiences of my life have taught me about relationships, politics, Love and where many of nature’s enigmas have revealed themselves to me. There are cycles in life that with an open mind, continue to sequel in this “Tales of the City.” Homosexuality and Love, two of my sacred truths, have, once again allowed my relationships (and a special one in particular) to connect with a larger “spirit” of which we are all a part (in spite of all the stumbling blocks and social taboos).
