Reflections of a Rock Lobster

Reflections of a Rock Lobster was sent to me relatively untouched--its front cover and title page had been sliced in half. Hoping to gain some inspiration in this project I read this autobiography and tried to gain a better understanding as to why this book was defaced. I didn't read anything scandalous or obscene. This book was just about a young man writing about his own life--trying to fit in, trying to come to grips with his own identity. Completely natural. I created a collage from the torn pages of this book and painted a still life of natural object directly on top of his words. To tie the entire piece together I gave the inanimate objects lives of their own by making them directly quote from his text.
