Sexualities
This work was created by exploring our relationship with information. As a vandal
attempted to cut this book rendering it unreadable, we magnified his attack by completely
disassembling the book. At the same time as we embraced the destruction of this book,
we also developed a way for its rebirth and renewal. By sewing the pieces together in the
form of the traditional scroll, the text became whole. The use of sewing and decorative
stitching throughout the piece emphasizes the message that a new whole can be created
by joining together and reorganizing individual parts. In keeping with the original political
perspective of the title, the piece incorporates a feminist sensibility by sewing handmade
prints that alter fashion magazine ads back into the celebration of form that art strives for.
The piece as a whole reminds the viewer that Tradition is the source of our understanding
of information and anything that has come into understanding will not be forgotten
but remade.
