To Anne
To Anne:
I have never met a more caring, supportive, and giving person. I am proud and honored to
call you my best friend and I am proud of who you are.
My best friend of twelve years “came out” when we were twenty. I had long suspected
she was gay but was not prepared for my feelings and reaction when she finally told me.
I felt anger, shame, frustration, grief, and fear. I turned away from her during a time she
needed acceptance the most. I have come a long way since that time, much in part to her
support of my acceptance process. My contribution represents that acceptance process.
And for this project, what a wonderful idea. It says to those who hate through vandalism,
“You will not win.”
And they have not.
