San Francisco Public Library Presents a Panel Discussion

The Global Water Crisis



San Francisco, Ca - The Wallace Stegner Environmental Center at the San Francisco Public Library will present a free program titled The Global Water Crisis on Wednesday, May 29 at 5:30pm in the Main Library's Koret Auditorium at Civic Center. A panel of experts will discuss both global and California water issues, factors contributing to the growing water crisis, and what is being done to protect remaining water resources.

Claire Hope Cummings, a journalist who writes about the social and environmental implications of agriculture for news services and periodicals, and produces and hosts a weekly radio show for KPFA-FM Berkeley, will moderate the panel discussion. The panelists include:

  • Dr. Peter Gleick of the Pacific Institute, who directs several Institute research projects related to freshwater resources, environmental security, and climate change. Dr. Gleick is an internationally recognized expert on global freshwater resources, including the hydrologic impacts of climate change, sustainable water use, privatization and globalization, and international conflicts over water resources.
  • Zeke Grader, Executive Director of the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's Associations, has been responsible for drafting legislation and regulations affecting fishing. He is a member of the Environmental Law Section of the California Bar, the American Fisheries Society, and the American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists.

The Global Water Crisis program is sponsored by Wallace Stegner Environmental Centerthe Wallace Stegner Environmental Center of the San Francisco Public Library and is funded by a grant from the Mary A Crocker Trust.
