Why:
The Ingleside Branch is the 11th branch to be completed under the Branch Library Improvement Program, which is funded by a $105.9 million bond measure passed by voters in November 2000. The branch is one of four libraries that was previously housed in a leased facility and is now being replaced by a city-owned building. Project costs totaled about $7 million including site acquisition. A separate fundraising campaign by Friends of the San Francisco Public Library provided new furniture and equipment for the branch.

The light filled and sustainably designed new branch provides a prominent civic presence to the neighborhood. The Library features a separate teen room, a spacious children’s area with window seats and skylight, plus a program room that will provide a community gathering spot and a public art sculpture by artist Eric Powell,. The branch includes new furniture and shelving, an expanded collection of materials and computers, a reading area, Wi-Fi access and more functional staff work spaces

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

As part of the celebration, Plymouth Street at Ocean Avenue will be closed to traffic. Musical entertainment will precede the opening ceremony, which begins at 1 p.m.

Building better libraries for stronger communities.
