San Francisco – In association with the Exploratorium’s exhibition The Nobel Prize: 100 Years of Creativity, the San Francisco Public Library celebrates the anniversary of the Nobel Prize for literature on Saturday, August 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s Koret Auditorium, 100 Larkin Street. Join Bay Area authors Alev Croutier, Tamim Ansary, Jane Hirshfield and Jim Quay, who will read and discuss the work of Nobel Literature
laureates with David Kipen, book critic for the San Francisco Chronicle.
The Nobel Prize in Literature has recognized a whole spectrum of literary works, including poetry, novels, short stories and plays. Beginning in 1901 with the first literature award to the poet and philosopher Sully Prudhomme, author of Stances et Poemes, the Nobel prize for literature has been awarded to unknown masters as well as critically acclaimed writers.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of the San Francisco Public Library, the Consulate General of Sweden, the Royal Norwegian Consulate General, the Exploratorium, Richard Goldman, Maurice Kanbar, Lisa & John Pritzker, Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation, and Tad & Dianne Taube, and is being held in conjunction with the exhibition The Nobel Prize: 100 Years of Creativity which is on display at the Exploratorium now through October 2, 2005.
