Our Family Coalition Hosts a Conversation with Marcus Ewert, Author of 10,000 Dresses, an Acclaimed Kids Book About a Transgender Child

[San Francisco, CA.] Our Family Coalition is pleased to announce an interactive talk with Author Marcus Ewert and the reading of his book, 10,000 Dresses. The event will be held at the San Francisco Main Library (100 Larkin Street, at Civic Center Plaza), in the Fisher Children’s Center from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013.

Acclaimed as one of the few books about transgender issues written for elementary school aged children, 10,000 Dresses is a story about a young girl named Bailey and her search to find acceptance. After the reading, Mr. Ewert will be available for a question and answer session. A book signing follows, along with a hands-on activity where kids in attendance will be able to make their own paper dresses.

“This is a celebratory and sensitive book about self-acceptance and identity. We are thrilled to welcome all San Francisco families with school age children to this conversation and afternoon of arts and crafts,” said Our Family Coalition’s Education Director Tarah Fleming.

As highlighted by Pam’s House Blend, “If you are a member of an LGBT family with young children, or the friend or ally of an LGBT family with young children, and want to expose your children to what the broad LGBT community looks like, you need to expose yourself and these children to the picture book 10,000 Dresses.”

The event is free to the public. Advance registration is required. The first 10 families to arrive will receive a signed copy of 10,000 Dresses. Visit www.ourfamily.org to register. Space is limited.
