Author/Critic Hilton Als Speaks at Main Library
Tuesday, February 18
Koret Auditorium, 6 – 8 p.m.

Author Hilton Als will discuss his book White Girls at the San Francisco Main Library’s Koret Auditorium on Feb. 18, 6 – 8:00 p.m. Hilton Als is an American writer and theater critic who writes for The New Yorker magazine.

White Girls, a varied collection of essays, is one of five finalists in the Criticism category for the 2013 National Book Critics Association Awards. The book deftly weaves together his analyses of literature, art, and music with his unique insights on race, gender, and history. The result is an extraordinary, complex portrait of “white girls,” as Als dubs them—an expansive but precise category that encompasses figures as diverse as Truman Capote and Louise Brooks, Malcolm X and Flannery O’Connor.

The book National Book Critics Association Awards will be announced on March 13.
