Frameline Film Festival Collection

Frameline @ the Library

The Frameline Film Festival Collection was donated in 2007 to the Hormel LGBTQIA Center of the San Francisco Public Library. Close to 4,000 titles from Frameline's San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival include film and video submissions that were never publicly screened. The collection includes features, shorts, and documentaries. A searchable database of titles, with brief descriptions, is available at the bottom of the screen.

Much of this material was produced using formats which are now in danger of deterioration. In June 2011, the Library, in partnership with the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC), began to digitize, preserve and exhibit this precious collection. We continue to digitize selected titles from the collection as funding permits. For information on accessibility, please consult archivists in the San Francisco History Center at 415-557-4567.

Titles to Request in the Archives

  • Search the database below for archival copies of Frameline videos, most of which are not yet digitized and are in analog formats.

  • Items are available for viewing in the San Francisco History Center upon request and depending on the fragility and format.

  • 48 hours’ notice is required to pull these materials. There may be a longer waiting period if the item needs to be transferred to a viewing format.

  • Researchers should wait for confirmation from a staff member before visiting in person to view the material.

To request a viewing or for more information, please contact the San Francisco History Center at 415-557-4567, sfhistory@sfpl.org, or visit in person.
