Thank you for completing Summer Stride 2023, the Library's annual summer learning, reading and exploration program for all ages. Please check back for next year's challenge.

Summer Stride is the Library’s annual summer learning, reading and exploration program for all ages and abilities. 

From June through August, we promote: 

  • Author talks, reading lists and book giveaways 
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning 
  • Mindful experiences in nature 
  • Workforce development opportunities for teens 
  • Meaningful connections for all ages for our diverse community 

Challenge yourself and others to read, learn and listen with the Library this summer!

After you finish your 20 hours, come pick up your finishing prize, our 2023 Summer Stride Library book tote!

You can register individual participants as well as groups (families, classes).

Recommended Summer Reading

SFUSD logoStudents, Families and Educators, the annual SFUSD Recommended Summer Reading Lists are your source for great, diverse and newly-published reads for Pre-K to Grade 12. All SFUSD students receive the Summer Reading List right in their home mailboxes. Start reading now!

Alphabet rockersEvery summer, the Library offers a bevy of quality programs for all ages—free of cost, both in-person and virtual. From programs that teach kids about nature, to music performances by award-winning artists, to expert presenters on current topics including health and wellness, to craft workshops, to valuable how-to programs on gardening and cooking, you will find something to love at the Library.

STEM ChallengeRound sticker

Have fun and experiment with our summer STEM Challenge, a webseries packaged for the budding scientist and engineer to practice the scientific method using common household items. The Library offers materials you see in these videos at all library locations, while supplies last. New STEM Challenge how-to videos arrive every other week, hosted by SFPL youth librarians.
