Purchase Teaching Adults To Read video

Award winning San Francisco filmmaker Peter Adair produced Teaching Adults to Read under the professional supervision of Sharon Crater, M.A., former director of the Adult Learning and Tutorial Center at San Francisco Community College. Project Read training instructors regularly include the video in our 15-hour tutor training.

1.  Stories  (18 mins.)

Adult literacy students tell about their early years, their hopes and dreams. Tutors tells of their experiences working with adult learners.

2.  Using the Language Experience Approach  (20 mins.)

An adult learner dictates a story then learns to read it.

3.  Language Experience and Reading Skills  (23 mins.)

The tutor and learner use the story for word attack exercises.

4.  Activities for Intermediate Students   (23 mins.)

An instructor and an intermediate class read a newspaper, a contract and a sales catalog.
