New Glen Park Branch Opening This Fall

If you weren’t looking for it, you could easily drive right by the old Glen Park Branch—San Francisco Public Library’s smallest branch—where it has been tucked behind trees on narrow Chenery Street for nearly 30 years.
In the fall, the little 1,500-square-foot library will be replaced by one six times as big when it moves into an 8,500-square-foot space on Diamond and Wilder streets.
The branch, one of four branches currently housed in leased facilities which will be replaced by City-owned buildings, will occupy the second floor of the new Glen Park Marketplace, located at 2825 Diamond St., near the Glen Park BART station.
The Glen Park Marketplace is a multi-use building which includes the library, housing units and a grocery store. An elevator and stairs in the glass-enclosed foyer lead up to the library. The foyer will display public art and include after-hour book drops.
The new light and airy branch will feature special children and teen areas, a state-of-the-art program room, more shelving for books and materials, more computers, WiFi access to the Internet and staff work spaces.
For the first time, Glen Park patrons will be able to have the choice of sitting at a table, in a lounge chair or at a computer, thanks to all the newly created space.
