DESCRIPTION:<p>Celebrate with members of the San Francisco Chapter of the California Council of the Blind as they honor Louis Braille’s revolutionary tactile system of reading and writing.</p><p>Beginning with its adoption by France in 1854, Braille has made books, music symbols, mathematical notation, and other printed material accessible for people who are blind or have low vision. &nbsp;</p><p>Event activities include:&nbsp;</p><p><strong>STORYTIME&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;<br>Main Library - Children's Center, 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM &nbsp;</p><p>Enjoy songs, fingerplays and interactive print/Braille story books read by members of the California Council of the Blind. &nbsp; &nbsp;</p><p><strong>PERFORMANCE</strong><br>Ensemble Humanité<br>Main Library - Koret Lobby, 1:00 AM to 2:00 PM</p><p>Enjoy an hour of music from classical duo Ensemble Humanité, a collaboration between Ayaka Isono, a blind pianist, and Maki Ishii, a sighted violinist. Ayaka Isono will briefly discuss the use of Braille musical notation.</p><p><strong>DEMOS & DISPLAYS</strong><br>Main Library - Atrium, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM &nbsp;</p><p>Have your name written in Braille and explore tactile maps and drawings. All questions about how Braille is used in everyday life will be gladly answered. &nbsp;</p><p><strong>TECH SHOWCASE&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;<br>Main Library - Stong Conference Room, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM&nbsp;</p><p>A variety of high and low tech tools and devices will be on hand to illustrate the power of Braille and related technology. &nbsp;</p>
