DESCRIPTION:<p>Take the first step toward freeing yourself from student loan stress with this workshop designed to equip borrowers with tools and resources for managing their student loan debt effectively. This session introduces the fundamentals of student loans, including:</p><ul><li>understanding your loans & what you owe</li><li>repayment options & forgiveness programs</li><li>repaying private student loans</li><li>protecting yourself from scams&nbsp;</li><li>filing a complaint & advocating for yourself</li><li>accessing free, individualized assistance with navigating your loans</li></ul><p>Whether you're just starting your student loan journey or need a refresher, this workshop provides the knowledge, tools and resources to manage your student loan debt with confidence.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Presented by Angely Miranda from MyPath, a member of the Student Loan Empowerment Network.</p><p><img src="https://sfpl.org/admin/events/lib/external/responsive_filemanager/source/Angely Miranda.jpg" alt="Picture of presenter Angely Miranda"></p><p>Angely has 20+ years of youth development experience, having spent her entire career in the nonprofit sector providing a wide variety of services (education, employment, coaching/mentoring, case management, foster care services, etc.) to community members. An immigrant born in El Salvador and raised in the Bay Area, she was the first in her family to graduate from high school and college. She is committed to working with youth and young adults from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to help them to meet their fullest potential. She believes that everyone, especially underserved and marginalized young people, have a right to access information and resources (access to post-secondary education options and college admissions information, financial aid opportunities, career and employment opportunities, opportunities to build their financial capability, etc.) that will help set them up for success in their lives. She is a proponent of change and fully supports positive systems and policy changes to create a more equitable and just world for youth and young adults.</p><p><img src="https://sfpl.org/admin/events/lib/external/responsive_filemanager/source/MyPath logo.png" alt="Logo of MyPath" width="150" height="80"></p><p><a href="https://mypathus.org/">MyPath</a> is a San Francisco-based nonprofit working on a national scale to help young people get on a path to building wealth. Their programs provide young people who are earning income with foundational financial education, access to quality financial products, a working knowledge of the financial system and a peer-based social support system that encourages personal goal-setting and accountability. To date, they have provided more than 40,000 young people with the knowledge, tools and confidence to help them bank and build credit, savings and financial confidence.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><img src="https://sfpl.org/admin/events/lib/external/responsive_filemanager/source/Student Loan Empowerment Network.png" alt="Logo of Student Loan Empowerment Network"></p><p>The <a href="https://studentloanhelp.dfpi.ca.gov/">Student Loan Empowerment Network</a> is made up of 14 nonprofit organizations, in partnership with the <a href="https://dfpi.ca.gov/">California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI)</a>, that provides free and individualized education, case management, and assistance with student loan issues for Californians. Their Mission is to help California student loan borrowers navigate the complex student loan repayment system and build a prosperous future.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>
