DESCRIPTION:<p>Author Anne Whiteside discusses her new book, <i>The Moon in Splinters</i>.</p><p>The story of Maurice Pertschuk, the author’s uncle, murdered by the Nazis at age 23, was shrouded in family silence for decades. After her mother’s death, she sets out to learn why, tracking down survivors, archival records and testimonies. The result: a gripping account of clandestine life: idealism, romance, betrayal and the heroism of the ordinary men and women in his circuit, who risked their lives to restore French democracy.</p><p>Space limited. After many years teaching English and a career in educational linguistics that included a Fulbright fellowship and teaching at U.C. Berkeley and San Francisco State University, she spent 13 years researching her uncle's life and death in the French Resistance.
