Nadia is a songwriter who uses poetry daily and feels it is essential to self-empowerment and writing her music. As a Yemeni-American Muslim woman, Nadia advocates for and raises awareness on topics relating to Middle Eastern and Muslim communities.
The Oakland Youth Poet Laureate program is a citywide effort to celebrate literacy through poetry and connect young writers to far-reaching opportunities. Each year they accept applications from talented Oakland writers (ages 13-18) to join a community of young poets.
