SUMMARY:Authentic Voices: Community Research from San Francisco Black Neighborhoods
DESCRIPTION:
Authentic Voices represents the culmination of work by two San Francisco cohorts of Black community researchers from the Community Research Institute run by Rise for Racial Justice and the Scholarly Personal Narratives (SPN) project coordinated by the Jumuiya Research Institute.

The posters, more than 50 interspersed throughout the third-floor lobby, in the African American Center and the corridor leading up to it, delve into research topics of interest to local Black Community Activist Researchers, such as food access for seniors on fixed incomes, navigating workplace hostility, the local education system and community gardens as sites of Black healing. They also include Scholarly Personal Narratives (SPN), which explore Black cultural wisdom and knowledge across the past, present, and future (Sankofa), by acknowledging Black wisdom warriors (Jenga) and the stories, parables and lived examples they offered. The SPN posters highlight inspiring Black Jegnoch from participants lives, who displayed a way of being against anti-black racism and thereby helped reduce racial stress.

Both programs were funded the San Francisco Dream Keeper Initiative administered through Collective Impact.
