Remembering Tiananmen Square

Event detail

Twenty five years ago, on the night of June 3 to June 4, 1989, the Chinese government brutally put down a peaceful, student-led protest in Tiananmen Square in the heart of the Beijing. Hundreds of people were killed, and this dramatic act of political suppression shocked the world.

The Chinese Center of the Public Library in partnership with the Northern California Hong Kong Club present a panel exhibit that examines the events surrounding the June 4th Massacre, looking at the issues that led to the student and civilian protests, the reaction of the Chinese government and how this still affects human rights issues in China to this day.
