Share your Filipino-American story through photographs to help document the evolution of the Filipino community in San Francisco from the 1920s to today. While street and landscape locations like South of Market and Filipino Education Center are available in the San Francisco Public Library’s photographic archive of the city, pictures of everyday home, community and work life are not.
Researchers, writers, filmmakers, teachers and students depend on the Library’s photo collection to paint an accurate picture of daily life in our communities. That’s why the San Francisco Public Library and SoMA Pilipinas are inviting past and present members of San Francisco’s Filipino community to get their photos into the archives this May!
- PHOTO DAY
- Saturday, May 13, 2017
10 AM to 4 PM
San Francisco Public Library Main Library
100 Larkin Street
The public is encouraged to bring personal photo collections to the Kodakan Photo Day. There, historians and volunteers will select images to add to the archive. No donations are necessary as selected photos are copied on the spot. Photographs are then available to library users at the San Francisco History Center at the Main Library and online.
The Library is interested in a variety of photographic subjects such as leisure activities, work life, celebrations, performances and family gatherings. Images of social, cultural, civic and political organizations are very welcome as well as neighborhood landmarks and businesses. Participants do not need to be current residents of San Francisco and are urged to bring their entire collection as opposed to self-selecting photographs. Photo albums, loose photographs and digital photos are welcome.
Photo Day appointments are strongly encouraged as this greatly reduces any wait time. Appointments are available on the hour starting at 10 AM and ending at 4 PM. Drop-ins are accepted if time permits. Make your Photo Day appointment online or email Joelene at the Bayanihan Center.
