Come join us in discussing great works of literature from Latin America. We will read books translated into English and discuss the importance of the book to their country of origin. This group hopes to invite beginners interested in Latin America and those already familiar with Latin America to use novels as a way of discussing the formation of history and culture in the Americas.

Please join us as we read Lost City Radio by Daniel Alarcón. Norma is the host of Lost City Radio, a show devoted to reading out the names of people who have been disappeared in an unnamed country that has been torn apart by war. One day, an 11 year old boy Victor shows up at her studio and they both embark on a journey to reconcile what it means to remember their lives in a country at war.

Lost City Radio is also available as an ebook through the Hoopla service, which allows immediate borrowing without waiting on holds.

Alarcón will also speak at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco on January 23rd at 3pm, and on the same day, will be in conversation with Jeff Chang at the City Arts & Lecture at 7pm. Join our discussion to be well prepared for these two events!

Hosted by Francisco Cardona, M.A. Comparative Literature, San Francisco State University.
